9,478 people simultaneously made zongzi, a pyramid-shaped dumpling of glutinous rice wrapped in reed leaves, in Yichang, Hubei province, June 3, 2019, set a new mark recognized by Guinness World Records for the most people preparing the food together. Zongzi is a special food prepared for the Dragon Boat Festival or Duanwu Festival, which commemorates the life and death of the poet Qu Yuan (340-278 BC). The festival occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on June 7 this year. The two characters represent Duanwu.
